Richard Marshall joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1984. In 2003 he was featured with Orchestra colleagues in performances of Paulus’ String Quartet Concerto, Pieces of Enlightenment. He has performed at numerous Sommerfest chamber music concerts.
Marshall earned a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Trained first as a violinist, he studied with Itzhak Perlman, Dorothy DeLay and Bernard Zaslav.
Marshall was a semi-finalist at the 1982 Portsmouth International String Quartet Competition as first violinist of the Norquay Quartet. He was also a finalist at the 1983 Banff International Quartet Competition as a member of the Vermilion Quartet. He has coached with members of the Vermeer, Cleveland, Emerson, American and Hungarian quartets, and was featured in a Canadian Film Board documentary on the Banff Centre.
