25th Anniversary Concert
Maestro Osmo Vänskä will conduct a lakeside chamber orchestra performance featuring renowned violinist and former Minnesota Orchestra Concertmaster Jorja Fleezanis, distinguished Madeline Island Music Camp alumni and 2010 students and faculty. The concert will be held in a giant climate-controlled tent on Madeline Island. The 5pm performance will be broad cast live to the public on the grounds of the historic Woods Manor, and to boaters on Lake Superior. Minnesota Public Radio will be recording the performance to be aired nationally via delayed broadcast.
The 36-piece ensemble includes the Grammy Award-winning Pacifica String Quartet, the Prairie Winds Quintet and Madeline Island Music Camp Musical Director Evelina Chao of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Fleezanis will serve as concert master in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings. A Beethoven String Quartet and the 13-instrument version of Copland’s Appalachian Spring will also be performed.
A Recognition Dinner Concert at Woods Manor will be held on July 9 featuring John Birge, classical music host from Minnesota Public Radio, the Prairie Winds, the Pacifica String Quartet and young artists from the class of 2010. Major donors including The Mahadh Fund of HRK Foundation, Virginia Townley, Edie and Michal Bristol, Art Edwards and many others will be recognized as well as past and present board members, volunteers, and distinguished alumni.
